It’s interesting where the creative flow can take you! This was not the concept I had in mind for this month’s AdTech project, but it just ended up flowing in the direction of a faux-batik effect!
I love using my AdTech Synergi Freedom glue gun to draw designs and this project is super easy! The trigger action is super smooth on this model and the Premiere glue sticks flow really well onto the canvas. P.S. The Synergi also has a light to shine on your work area; however, I don’t use the light when I am video’ing or photographing because it’s too bright for the cameras!

AdTech Synergi Freedom Glue Gun & AdTech Premiere Glue Sticks
3 mini canvases (3″ x 3″ or size of your choice)
8″ x 10″ canvas (or size of your choice)
Acrylic paints (I used Green Turquoise, Lush Foliage, Orchid, Burgundy, Palm Leaf and Light Yellow)
Paint brush
Aleene’s Tacky Glue & glue squeegee (cardboard or plastic)
Optional: Scrapbook paper or handmade paper (for background on canvas)

Paint top and sides of mini canvases color(s) of your choice. Let paint dry.

Use glue gun to draw your pattern. I found it easiest to start with the outside line of the leaf and then fill in with lines of glue.

Repeat on all 3 canvases with slightly different shapes. Let glue cool.

Use light coats of several other colors in a dry-brush technique. Don’t overwork the paint as you want to see the brush strokes.

I used the same colors on all 3 canvases: burgundy, yellow and green.

While the paint is still damp, carefully peel up the hot glue to reveal the pattern underneath. Note: the hot glue will peel up the first color painted on the canvas to reveal the white on the canvas.

You will note that some of the top coat paint seeps under the hot glue pattern which reveals an interesting effect of faux batik.

You can paint the 8″ x 10″ canvas, or glue scrapbook paper on the canvas. I used some monoprint papers that I had made for another project, tearing the edge to reveal a white deckle edge. Also, I chose to leave the top paper hanging over the edge of the canvas, to give more dimension.

Evenly space out your mini canvases and glue in place. Let dry completely.
